Disneyworld 2014: Hunting for our first dinner at Disneyworld - Part 05
(See previous posting)
After resting for a few hours, it was getting dark. Time for dinner. We decided to go to Downtown Disney to check it out.
While walking down to the lobby to catch a complimentary bus, we saw a river boat about ready to leave for Downtown Disney. We immediately took a ride on it.
Unfortunately, it was a chilly night and the next 20 minutes we were shivering as we got hit from the wind as the boat is an open air vehicle.
When we saw the lights we knew we have arrived at Disney.
In Florida, Downtown Disney is so much bigger than the one you find in California. Spread along a huge lake, it takes some leg work and time to cover everything. For today, we decided to just search for a place to eat.
Here you can also find a big Lego store that we will definitely will be visiting. All around the store, giant Lego structures, animals and vehicles can be seen. There is also a lake monster partially immersed in the lake.
We finally found the AMC theater that also has a restaurant. Serving American style food, it is a good place as any for a meal.
In fact, last year when we visited Disneyland in Anaheim, the first meal we got was also at an AMC theater.
Like all American meals, the portions were enormous. While waiting, we read some of the promotional brochures about the theater. It seems that you can even order the food and have it sent to you while you watch a movie!
After the meal, we walked around exploring Downtown Disney. Despite the long journey that we just went through, we yet to feel the effect of the jet-lag.
The weather was chilly but bearable. With some winter clothing that we brought with us from home, it was more than sufficient to keep us warm. At one time we just set down to watch people go by and observe the multitude of lights emanating everywhere.
Although when we went was not a peak period, there were sure a lot of people having fun. I guess Downtown Disney is one place where you can still have the Disney magic without actually paying for a ticket in one of the theme parks.
By 11 pm we suddenly got very tired. So we headed towards the bus depot to catch a bus to our resort. In Disneyworld, all the public transport (apart from taxis) are complimentary for the convenient of guests.
We did not need to wait for long. Within 3 minutes a bus to our resort arrived and we all boarded it to go home. My son was trilled with what he has experienced in last 48 hours.
We arrived on a Saturday. In reviews, despite the non-peak period, the weekends are still packed. To ensure we don't waste a day's pass at a theme park, we have decided to make Sunday a shopping day.
On arrival to the resort, we went to the lobby to book a special taxi that is able to carry five people to go to the biggest factory outlet here in Orlando.
Just past midnight we decided to call it a night.
I realised our room has the Princess and the frog theme. Happy to be able to get to Disneyworld without any untoward incident.
Tomorrow the real adventure begins!!
To be continued.

Lego Technic model 42029 - Finally completed the project
Please refer to the previous posting:
Finally completed the build of this Lego model after many months. Not as difficult as the previous project (see: The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II) that required six (6) instruction books to complete. For this project, only two (2) instruction books were needed.
This unit really reminded me of my old Ford Ranger 4x4 pick-up truck but in blue. However, not actually similar in many ways.
For a start, it is a single cab unit whereas mine was a double cab version with four (4) doors. This model has a winch whereas mine does not have one. It also has an air intake manifold above the hood as well as a tipping flatbed. Mine don't have any of these.
Based on the engine design, this model has a V6 engine. You can lift up the hood to see the engine and see the pistons working as you move the tires.
All tires have dampers with a lot of travel. The tires given are wide and off-rode in nature.
The next set of three photos shows the flatbed being tipped as well as the rear door flap opened.
The controls can be found next to the right door of the driving cap. Pushing the lever forward allows you to tip the flatbed. Pushing the level backward allows you to release the winch at the front of the truck.
Here is the winch.

The flatbed has a simple folding-down door at the back.

Lego Technic model 42029 - new project for the next couple of weekends
I got this model a couple of months ago. Have yet to start on it. Hopping to do so this weekend. This unit really reminded me of my old Ford Ranger 4x4 pick-up truck but in blue.
This model can be operated with the Lego Power unit (sold separately). Apart from the pick-up truck, you can also use the bricks to build another vehicle seen below on the right.

The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II - Fully completed
In my previous postings titled: The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II - new toy to play for the next couple of weekends and The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II - Half way through. Another couple of weekends to completion I talked about my latest Lego project. Many weeks have passed and I finally completed the construction.
Below is the complete model.
The giant crane angled away.
The gearing.
It is a pity that you need batteries to make the various things on the model move. I would have preferred a manual model. Since this is my first Lego model with a motor, and the lessons that I learned, I will stick to non-motorised model from now onwards.

My own personal "man-cave" - a work in progress
Every man should have his own "man-cave" in his own home that is strictly off-limits to other members of the family. In my case I was able to carve out a small part of the house in Putrajaya to start developing one.
Honestly, it is not completed as yet. Although I have a small multi-gym equipment in it, my wife and kids still comes in to use it.
The shelves are all full of stuff. Can' display my books as well as my toys properly.
It is a shame...I need to have dedicated shelves for books and toys.
Even for my giant Lego model I had to put it on top of a 1000 piece puzzle. Note the framed art pieces that is still wrapped and kept at the side.
I can't even find a good place to put my loose weights.
I need to do some form of renovation. Question is when and how much....

Lego: Wall-E
This guy just built the Wall-E robot using lego parts and has submitted the design to Lego for consideration for their next product offering. I hope this submission gets the stamp of approval from Lego. I really like it.

Lego shop in Bangsar Village II
One of the only few pure Lego shops in Malaysia. Lego should invest more in Malaysia. I can almost guarantee demand will be strong.

The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II - Half way through. Another couple of weekends to completion
In my previous posting titled: The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II - new toy to play for the next couple of weekends I talked about my latest Lego project. Many weeks have passed and I have completed part of the construction.
Behold, the extent of the current build. This is only part of the completed project i.e. up to book 3 of 6 books!
The mini figurine is not part of the set. My son decided to add one of his for effect. During construction, some of the stickers were used.
The pair of 10 wheels can be seen in the shot below. The center axle is fixed but the other 4 are steerable.
The representation of the V8 diesel engine that would actually power the real machine. As the wheels move, the piston heads move as well.
A close up of the engine bay.
The various gears that help move certain parts of this Lego set.
The rear end of the crane.
A very long crane.
Hopefully I would be able to complete the other 2 booklets in the next couple of weeks.
