Fruiting mango tree

The mango tree in my garden in Putrajaya is fruiting again. However, the fruits are now high up. I can only see it if I am at the third floor of the house. See how many you can see from the picture below.

Fruist season is back: Mangosteen and Pulasan

Fruit season is back. Parent's dusun in Semenyih has started to produce manggis and pulasan. Due to the heat wave, the fruits are smaller but remains as sweet as always.

Taman Warisan Pertanian Putrajaya

Over the weekend went to visit Taman Warisan Pertanian situated in Presint 16 Putrajaya. Adults need only pay RM2 to enter the park. Kids get in for free.

This park is famous for its fruit orchard.

The park has nice walkways and if you follow them, you will be able to see all the fruit trees planted in this park. It is also a good place to exercise by walking or jogging.

This park is set on a hillside. You are able to see a lot of Putrajaya.

In the middle of the park is a nice village house made out of wood. It also serves as a small museum. Beside it is a small rubber tapping demonstration area.

This is the rubber pressing demonstration area. From here you can see the presses used to flatten globs of rubber into thin shapes.

Very undulating area. Good for sweating!

At one corner of the park is an amphitheater.

Sitting at the benches you can see the center of Putrajaya. This is a good spot to be in when there is fireworks being displayed in Putrajaya.

The gate of the park is thick and has a very substantial bolt.

Harvested my first coconut

Since my previous posting about my first and currently only coconut tree in my garden (see: http://meoramri.blogspot.com/2014/02/first-coconut-from-my-garden.html), the first coconut has grown to a size that I felt was sufficiently big to harvest. As advertised, the particular coconut tree is supposed to start bearing fruit in 7 years time. I planted it in 2007 and the first fruit came in 2014, on schedule.

Sweet tasting coconut water! However, there was hardly any flesh in the fruit. I guess, it can grow bigger. At least now I have a reference before I go plucking again. At the moment, there are 5 smaller coconuts on the tree.

After 7 years of since planting the coconut tree from a mere seedling in my garden in Putrajaya, the first fruit is now blossoming. Can't wait for it to mature.

Langkawi Holiday, November 2013 - 08 - Agro Technology Park or Taman Agroteknologi, Stesen Mardi Langkawi

Our final destination on this lighting tour is the Agro Technology Park or Taman Agroteknologi, Stesen Mardi Langkawi. This is a testbed of fruit trees that could be commercially viable in Malaysia.

At this outdoor laboratory, there are many things to do.

We took a tram ride with a tour guide to explain the interesting parts of the park. I took a selfie on the tram.

The park is quite large and beautifully landscaped.

I couldn't believe it but in Malaysia, in the tropics, you can grow grapes without a greenhouse! Through experiments, Mardi is able to grow grapes for consumption. It seems that the produce from this set of vines have gone to market.

From my observation, the grapes are smaller than their temperate counterparts but equally as sweet. The skin in rougher. First winery in Malaysia anyone?
