Business trip to Jakarta, Indonesia via ERL, MAS and staying in The Ritz-Charlton, Pacific Place Jakarta

I was recently asked to present a paper in Jakarta. A very short trip of just 24 hours. Fly iin via MAS, deliver my paper and immediately get back home.

Of course the journey starts by using the ERL service to KLIA. It is just 24 minutes past 7 pm and the train should be by the platform any minute now.

The trip to KLIA was uneventful. After a quick look at the shops, went to rest at the Business Class lounge. Had tom yam meehoon for dinner.

It was a quiet night. Not many people flying.

Got in Jakarta close to midnight. However the trip down to the hotel was quick as there weren't any traffic to content with.

When I checked in The Ritz-Charlton, Pacific Place Jakarta I was amazed that my host allocated a suite for me. This is the dedicated living room.

The guest toilet.

The corridor that serves the main bathroom, the main bedroom as well as the walking cabinet room.

The main toilet was all marble. Separate shower area plus a giant bathtub. Also note the TV next to the bathtub. There is even a small pillow in the bathtub.

The main bedroom.

Another living area in the main bedroom.

The corridor and the doorway to the walking cabinet room.

Loads of space in the walking cabinet room.

The view out of the window.

My room number. A pity as only got to use for 4 hours.

On a flight to Jakarta for work

Going alone. Bored. Took some photos of the KLIA terminal.

While waiting for the flight had some snacks.

Invited to Jakarta to present a paper at a conference - 03 - November 2013 - Beautiful morning and breakfast

Please refer to previous postings.

Woke up to a very glorious morning in Jakarta. The weather was bright and clear. Took a picture of the city from my room.

Jakarta is a young modern city. Not a lot of tall buildings yet. Not sure whether they will be building such buildings in the future as Jakarta is on the Pacific Rim of Fire.

Huge city. It stretches as far as the eyes could see.

Slept in and only went to breakfast at 9 a.m. (watch is still in Kuala Lumpur time). Breakfast was at Satoo Restaurant.

Surprisingly, it was not full. But the food choices was plentiful.

Enjoyed my breakfast.

Invited to Jakarta to present a paper at a conference - 02 - November 2013 - Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta

Please refer to the previous posting.

Traffic getting into Jakarta from the airport was a major pain. Even though it was a Sunday night, it took me close to 1 and a half hours to get to my hotel due to the traffic. Anyway, Shangri-La Hotel was a welcome sight.

I was allocated a room on the executive floor. Nice.

Too big of a room for just one person.

Very earthy colours and concept.

If only the shower head was larger.

Bedroom is very contemporary and filled with local handicraft.

Wood is prominantly used in the room.

Overall, very nice.

Business trip to Jakarta, March 2013

Had to go to Jakarta for a couple of days for meetings. This time flew by KLM so, I can't check in immediately at KL Sentral. As I will be lugging my bag around, I took a small one this time around.

Waiting at the ERL platform. Free wifi, which is always nice.

Afternoon flight so the train was not full at all. I guess, I was the only one in my coach.

After checking in, another train ride to the main terminal - Terminal C.

The B777 of KLM that I would be using. Weather was overcast with occasional showers.

Self-portrait.

Economy class.

Stayed at Novotel Hotel in Jakarta, the one close to Plaza Indonesia. A small room but has everything. Was told that this was originally the Nikko Hotel.

First evening went to old Jakarta to this old colonial restaurant called the Batavia situated in the old Dutch Governor's mansion.

What they serve. The menu is actually the pictures hung on the wall. Every picture has a menu printed at the back.

The front of my menu.

Next day, dressed for work.

Fighting the Jakarta traffic.

A very quiet corridor of a building in Jakarta.

Meeting room in one of the company I visited.

Jakarta city from the highway.

Pool area of the hotel.

Gazebos.

The pool. Pity it is not secluded from the other buildings.

Part of the Plaza Indonesia mall as seen from my room.

Another view of the same.
