USA Trip 2013: Part 2.1 - First day in Disneyland Anaheim

[Please refer to previous postings]

First day Disneyland Anaheim. Because we were staying in one of the Disneyland Resort hotels, we were given a special Early Pass which allows us to enter the park 1 hour earlier than the standard opening hours. On that day (Thursday), the official opening time was 9:00 am. Hence we were already walking around the park at 8:00 am.

There was a slight drizzle but it was not an issue walking to the Park.

The first ride that we took was the Peter Pan Ride. We only had to wait for 5 minutes before it was our turn.

Unfortunately, after strapping in, the ride broke down! We had to wait a further 15 minutes before it was working again.

We then went to the Pinocchio Ride. Once again, the wait for minimal around 5 minutes only.

The rides we took at that point were all centred around Fantasyland. This section is usually appeals to younger children hence the abundance of strollers.

Off-peak period as well as forecast of rain has reduced the number of visitors - to our advantage! All queue lines were practically empty!!!

Always wanted to ride the Dumbo - can't recall whether I did ride it 17 years ago. Oh yes, I forgot to mentioned the last time I was there was 17 years ago for my honeymoon. It was August 1995. Now with 3 kids I'm back. This place brings back loads of happy memories.

Mr Toad of the famed Winds in the Willows. Not sure if you can still remember the cartoon that uses stop motion technics.

Storybookland is another ride where you sit in a boat. The concept of this ride is now a TV series called "once Upon A Time".

Here all the fairy tales are presented in miniature. What makes this very interesting is that all the greenery is real trees (bonzai), grass and flowers.

During summer, it must be very beautiful with all the flowers blooming.

We then walked around to see other interesting scenery. Below is the Tinkerbell Grotto.

Despite it being in January, there were flowers already blooming.

The submarine ride is one classic ride that I like. This ride is slightly different then that one I went 17 years ago as elements of Nemo the movie was incorporated.

Check out the occupancy of the submarine. It was just us!

Everything that you see out of the window were man made. Even the fishes were not real.

Another classic ride in Disneyland is the driving centre called Autopia. Here, everyone has the change to drive a petrol powered car, drive as well as accelerate or brake a car along a guide rail.

My second daughter driving for the first time.

My son driving for the first time.

In the centre of the lane is the guide rail that I was talking about. For someone that does not have any experience in driving, this ride is hilarious as the car would be bumping and shaking all along the track.

Traffic jam!!!

My eldest daughter in her green car.

By then the drizzle has stopped. The sun's up. Lovely.

Our first roller-coaster ride, the Matterhorn Bobsleds.

The two younger kids were very apprehensive as this would be their first roller-coaster ride. They enjoyed it in the end.

As they were fine with that ride, we went on a more trilling roller-coaster ride, Space Mountain.

For this ride, pictures were taken. My son kept his eyes shut throughout the ride!!!

This is the start of the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters ride. Here participants can shoot laser at targets and points awarded. You then can compete with your partner on the points obtained.

To be continued.
