USA Trip 2013: Part 1.4 - First night around Downtown Disney

[Please refer to previous postings]

After a couple of hours of rest, we decided to explore the area around the hotel and to search for a place to have dinner. Referring to maps of the area as well as information obtained from the internet as well as the in-house Disney TV channel, there is now a small town created by Disney called Downtown Disney. Shops and eating places are concentrated there and no tickets are required to enter. It is in fact a shopping/restaurant high street.

After getting directions from the hotel staff, we headed for a 5 minute stroll to get to Downtown Disney.

Downtown Disney. Wow.

This is the first shop that we entered.

We then entered a large toy shop that only sell one type of product - build your own toy car! Interesting.

We then saw a very large Lego store with giant lego structures in and out of the building.

On one side of the store, you can buy lego parts. Pick and choose.

Different colours and shapes.

The Lego prices here are much cheaper than in Kuala Lumpur, at least 35% lower. I got my eye on a few that I will buy just before I fly back. My son too is eying a few.

You can also buy individual figurines - thousands of them.

Later the girls went to a clothing store to look at stuff. I was told for the quality of material used, value for money.

The first cash purchase made was by my second daughter. She saw a Churros vendor and got it.

By this time the kids were hungry but not that hungry to justify going to a restaurant. So, we saw a cinema and head towards the food section. Take away chicken strips and curly fries looks yummy.

A well stock but quiet cafeteria.

Guess what size is the cups defined as? Its considered "small"! Unbelievable. You should see how big is "big" - like a small pail!!!

We took one corner of the high street to have a picnic. There was a band playing at the courtyard. A dinner and a show on the first night - brilliant!

It was about 8:00 pm Wednesday night when this picture was taken. Note the lack of people on the street. Now is the off-peak season. The school term in current in session in the US, Europe as well as in China. No people and everything was on discount. This is why we chose to go to Disneyland at this time. At that point, our bet seems to be confirmed. Tomorrow will be our first day into the Park. Let's see how it goes then.

Weather was also nice at a cool 16 degrees Celsius. The westerners were wearing shorts and t-shirts!

To top of a brilliant start to our family holiday, we had Haaen-Dazs ice-cream. Delicious and again cheaper then in Kuala Lumpur.

Me and my second daughter waiting for my wife and two other kids queuing for the ice-cream.

After this, off to the hotel to have a good rest for a full day at the Magic Kingdom.

To be continued.
