A recent decision to extend the marina’s already generous dry dock area means that all vessels based at or visiting Karpaz Gate Marina will have access to an expansive 18,000sqm dry dock for refit and repairs, to aid with both maintenance and storage. A second enhancement is a 300 tonne crane rather than the 180 tonne crane that was originally planned. This crane will be the biggest in the TRNC and larger than most on the Turkish coast.
Once completed, Karpaz Gate Marina will become the most important maintenance centre in this part of the Mediterranean and, as a result, is expected to become a highly popular marina destination in the eastern Mediterranean.

Improving the repair and refit facilities beyond our original plans is an important part of that strategy. Visiting superyacht and megayacht owners will have access to the largest and best possible maintenance facilities in the eastern Mediterranean and we anticipate that this will be a big draw for visitors.”
Over the winter, development work on the breakwater areas has been progressing well, and the marina is set to be completed, on time, in Spring 2011. More than 400m of the main breakwater is now complete (out of a total of 650m) and the secondary breakwater is also moving along, with 90m of the 150m complete. These areas will ensure a sheltered environment for yachts needing either a home port or visiting berth in the eastern Mediterranean.
