So, last Friday, on a excuse for some shopping therapy, I went to a music store and purchased the Roland TD-9S series drum set.
Honestly, it looked damn cool. Although I have never tried drums before, when I had a go at it, it was kind of fun. Moreover, the special box controller allows different kinds of drum kits be replicated.
The TD-9 is outfitted with a luxurious, large backlit display with accompanying oversized buttons and controls. Its friendly, icon-based user interface makes editing sounds and customizing kits fast and fun.
You can also play along with real-audio backing songs to build your skills. You can also use the USB port to play along with audio files of your choice (.WAV), back up data, or save a “quick record” performance. The "Quick Record” and "Quick Play” features allows immediately record and play back solo drum parts, or drum parts performed with the backing songs. Special connecting cable allows for fast, clean and easy connection to the pads.
I also purchased a special amplifier to get the sound out as well as a good paddle. All in, it costs me RM8,000.
Assembling it was easy. Took me only 30 minutes to set it up. Then the kids had a go at it. Awesome!
I noticed that I need to get a few other things to make it just perfect, a drum mat (due to the high impact of the stick, the whole drum tends to move) and a stool (a cheap plastic one should do).
The TD-9S components are packaged in two boxes as follows:
- Box 1 (TD-9K)
(1) TD-9 Percussion Module with multi-pin cable harness and module mount
(1) PDX-8 Mesh Pad
(3) PD-8 Dual-Trigger Pads
(1) KD-8 Kick Pad
(1) CY-5 Dual-Trigger Cymbal Pad
(2) CY-8 Dual-Trigger Cymbal Pad
(1) FD-8 Hi-Hat Control Pedal
- Box 2 (MDS-9)
This includes the drum set rack, and the clamps and arms for both the pads and cymbals.
