My Dubai Trip - Part 3

After 7:00 hours of flight, the plane commenced the approach to Dubai. Local time was noon and I was able to take a few pictures from the plane. As you can see, below is a scene of the vast desert of Arabia.

Surprisingly, as one gets closer to civilization, you start to spot greenery on the ground. It goes to show that with technology, you can make a difference even in the heat of a desert!

An interesting observation shows the lack of any tall building (>5 stories) in the suburbs of Dubai. With ample land, condominiums is not a concept that can sell in Dubai.

Another scene of suburbia near to the airport.

About 3 weeks ago, someone who was there told me the weather was a nice 29C at noon. I was actually shocked to be informed by the aircrew that the ground temperature is now 39C. On landing, the ground looks hot!

Since I was flying Emirates, I got the opportunity to disembark in their latest terminal, Terminal 4. From the outside, it looks like a snake resting on its side with its distinct roof pattern.

Flying Emirates also has another perk. A limousine service to your hotel. The limousine used was a Volvo V70. As expected, you are driven by another foreigner! Based on the latest statistics, for every one Dubaian there are 4 expats.

Dubai is a modern city with all the trappings. One key point of observation is its cleanliness. You do not see any rubbish at all on the streets.

The city does not feel like being in a desert. There are many parks with grass and trees.

The country is fairly flat and you can see far into the distance. However, on the day that I arrive, there was a slight haze.

I finally saw it, the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building the world. i immediately took a shoot with my camera. You can see it just above the bonnet of the car below.

Only in the heart of the city will you start to find high rise buildings and condominiums.

The clump of high rises (including Burj Khalifah) is the centre of town.

The Shaikh Zaid road, the main high street for the city of Dubai. Tall buildings on both sides of the big thoroughfare.
