Switzerland trip - Day 5 - The city of Innsbruck - walking tour

After the long journey 4 hour journey from Engelberg, Switzerland (http://meoramri.blogspot.com/2011/04/switzerland-trip-day-5-bus-trip.html), we set up base in Innsbruck, Austria. A university city so there is a lot of young people wondering around. It is also an historical city and the main part of the city has been reserved for pedestrians.

The old part of the city consists of old shop houses which are gaily decorated. Typical baroque design in the late 17th century.

Banning motor vehicles does have its advantages. You'll love the wide spaces. Unfortunately, it works well for people interested in the scenery. For business people, the lack of transportation means the lack of interest for people to buy/carry a lot of stuff.

The choices of colours for the buildings are also interesting. Sometimes clashing but in total quite pleasing to the eyes.

This is famous golden roof building of Innsbruck. The roof of the building is made out of gold!

The family.

The lady in the foreground is our guide for the day. Her name is Irma, the opposite of my name Amri! How coincidental...

Another interesting thing to notice is the metal coat of arms that the businesses hang outside their shops. It not only identifies the owner but also the type of product being sold.

This is one beautiful building of the period.
