M41 Walker Bulldog

The M41 Walker Bulldog began production in 1950 and ended to the tune of
some 5,500 examples produced.

Designation: M41 Walker Bulldog
Classification Type: Light Tank
Contractor: Cadillac Gage - USA
Country of Origin: United States
Initial Year of Service: 1951

The M41 Walker Bulldog was designed to replace the World War Two-era M24
Chaffee. Armed with a 76mm main gun, it was a very standardized tank, with
driver front left and the weapons crew in the turret (loader left, gunner
front right, commander read right). Ammunition options ran the gamut of
standard as well, with HEAT, HE, smoke and training rounds being among the
selections.

The M41 Walker Bulldog was used by the 1st Division Troops, among others,
during the Cold War. The M41 Walker Bulldog was also used by the armored
units of the Army of the Republic of South Vietnam, India and Pakistan.

The Walker Bulldog was named after General W.W. Walker, who died in an jeep
accident in 1951 Korea. The M41 Walker Bulldog is still in service in some
countries around the world.

The M41 Walker Bulldog would go on to be replaced by the M551 Sheridan tank
in the US military inventory.
