Invest in Malaysian bonds!

Above is graph of the BPA Malaysia's FiiX - All Bond Index for the period of 2 January 2009 until 4 May 2009.

Return

Actual Annual
2/1/09 - 4/5/09 -0.48% -1.44%
2/1/09 - 30/1/10 0.89% 11.59%
3/2/09 - 27/2/09 -1.99% -30.24%
2/3/09 - 31/3/09 0.49% 6.23%
1/4/09 - 30/4/09 0.05% 0.71%

As you can see from the above table, if you have invested some money in the Malaysian bond market from the start of this year until today, you would have suffered a loss of 0.48% (annualized at -1.44%). However, if you have invested using months as an investment horizon, you would have made profits for the month of January, March and April of 2009. The month of February 2009 appears to be a bad month to invest.

It is interesting to note that the equity market fared opposite to what the bond market faced during the same period under review. This goes to show that money do flow from these two markets. Since the equity market is hot at the moment, I suspect the May 2009 numbers for the bond market will also be in negative territory.
