Evening walk at the Putrajaya Botanical Gardens

Last weekend, I took the gang for a evening walk through the Putrajaya Botanical Gardens. The weather was very accommodating. It has been a couple of years since I was there and it would be nice to see it again.

It is a beautiful garden. It is a pity that not a lot of people know of its existence. But then, it means that I get it all for myself!!!

The sign for the the Putrajaya Seafood restaurant. In all honesty, never eaten there yet.

The roof of the Administrative centre looks like the front of the Imperial Cruiser from this angle.

The roof of the Royal Palace can be seen from the gardens.

The fern garden. All kinds of ferns can be found in this section.

My son.

Climbing up to the higher part of the gardens. Here, it feels like you are walking in the jungle.

This section is the palm tree section. All kinds of palm trees are planted here. Every plant has a small tombstone explaining its local name as well as its scientific name. Good learning experience for the kids (an adults too!).

From this vantage point, you have good view of the Prime Minister's residence.

Here also is a section called the Sun Garden. Orkids as well as other plants that strive on direct sunlight can be found.

A sundial. Because this is the tropics, the sun dial is not what you typically see in Western countries.

There is also a section for African plants.

The weather here in Malaysia is similar to tropical Africa. The plants indigenous to Africa grows well here.

My kids on small mound.

This part of the gardens have a lot mounds. Looks like burial mounds but in reality, it was designed for people to exercise.

You run up and then run down. It really breaks out a sweat to go through the course.

My brood.

At this part of the gardens, we decided against walking on the walking path provided. Instead, we went cross country.

This place is set beside the huge Putrajaya lake. It has over 1+km of wooden decking built on stilts in the lake itself.

Lake side view.

A small dam.

The long wooden bridge I mentioned earlier.

The lake is peaceful. As this is man-made, doubt there is a monster lurking in its depths!

An earth and rock embankment leading to the base of the dam.

The dam. The drop is approximately 3 metres high.

My son posing under a tree covered is creepers. Tarzan boy!!

The design of the gardens is very impressive and unobtrusive. Instead of concrete drains, the designers arranged rocks at the lowest point. From far, it still looks green as the grass still grows in the so called "drain". Where it rains and the water runs-off, the rocks acts like a channel. Brilliant.

Some scary looking palm trees. These trees grow in swampy areas.

A 360 degree video of the African section.
