Lego Technic model 42029 - Finally completed the project
Please refer to the previous posting:
Finally completed the build of this Lego model after many months. Not as difficult as the previous project (see: The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II) that required six (6) instruction books to complete. For this project, only two (2) instruction books were needed.
This unit really reminded me of my old Ford Ranger 4x4 pick-up truck but in blue. However, not actually similar in many ways.
For a start, it is a single cab unit whereas mine was a double cab version with four (4) doors. This model has a winch whereas mine does not have one. It also has an air intake manifold above the hood as well as a tipping flatbed. Mine don't have any of these.
Based on the engine design, this model has a V6 engine. You can lift up the hood to see the engine and see the pistons working as you move the tires.
All tires have dampers with a lot of travel. The tires given are wide and off-rode in nature.
The next set of three photos shows the flatbed being tipped as well as the rear door flap opened.
The controls can be found next to the right door of the driving cap. Pushing the lever forward allows you to tip the flatbed. Pushing the level backward allows you to release the winch at the front of the truck.
Here is the winch.

Lego Technic model 42029 - new project for the next couple of weekends
I got this model a couple of months ago. Have yet to start on it. Hopping to do so this weekend. This unit really reminded me of my old Ford Ranger 4x4 pick-up truck but in blue.
This model can be operated with the Lego Power unit (sold separately). Apart from the pick-up truck, you can also use the bricks to build another vehicle seen below on the right.

The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II - Fully completed
In my previous postings titled: The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II - new toy to play for the next couple of weekends and The Lego Technic 42009 Mobile Crane MK II - Half way through. Another couple of weekends to completion I talked about my latest Lego project. Many weeks have passed and I finally completed the construction.
Below is the complete model.
The giant crane angled away.
The gearing.
It is a pity that you need batteries to make the various things on the model move. I would have preferred a manual model. Since this is my first Lego model with a motor, and the lessons that I learned, I will stick to non-motorised model from now onwards.

Total renovation of the office space: Contractor interview; Part 01
Well, after so many years using the same furniture and fittings, it is time to refresh the office. We spent quite a sum of money for the IT refresh a couple of years ago and it is time to make the working environment more modern and livelier.
Preparing a complete renovation of an office space takes a lot of planning. Unlike home renovation, it would be best to have a professional project manager lead the exercise. To get the main contractor, an open tender should be conducted so as to allay fears of favoritism or even worst - corruption.
Below is a picture of a contractor interview that was conducted where we can query every aspect of the tender that was submitted.

A quick fix for a home
I saw this picture on the internet and I was very impressed by the way one can convert a basic ship container to a small home. I think this will have demand here in Malaysia.

Bank Rakyat Corporate HQ on Jalan Travers @25 January 2014
The building of Bank Rakyat's new HQ is coming along nicely. A barrier has been fixed to separate the view of old buildings from within Bank Rakyat (see the metal wall being built around the old block of shops).
The inner garden is currently undergoing planting.
Most of the glass paneling have been attached.
Bank Rakyat was able to get an entry from Jalan Travers itself.
A couple of brave souls on ropes dangling on the side of the building to clean the glass paneling.
For more visit:

World's Longest Treetop Walkway is in Germany
(Article taken from: http://inhabitat.com/worlds-longest-egg-shaped-treetop-walkway-rises-in-germany/)
If you want to see the world as the birds and bees do, you might want to head over to Germany, where the world's longest tree top walk was recently unveiled. Winding from the ground around three giant fir trees with a circumference of 38 meters each, the timber ramp is more than 500 meters long and 44 meters tall. Located in Neuschönau amid the spectacular Bavarian Forest National Park, the tree top walk is wheelchair accessible, so everyone in the family can come along.
The Bavarian Forest National Park bills the massive tree top walkway as “riskless adventure” since users are protected by a wooden fence and transparent nets. But for those who like a little adrenalin in their lives, a series of wooden and rope bridges along with other fun challenges are available at three different stations along the way to the top.
Once visitors reach the summit of the egg-shaped structure, which has a grade of no more than 6% and is topped with a flat platform, they are treated to immense views of the mountains of Lusen and Rachel along with the Bavarian and Bohemian forests. And on a really clear day, it is even possible to catch a peek at the northern alps. With a reasonable entrance fee of just €8 for adults, this destination is definitely worth a gander.

Fire at the new Shell HQ in Sentral - Towering Inferno at the 348 Sentral Building
This morning at 6 am was woken up by a call by a fried that told me that my building is on fire. Got up immediately to investigate but then found out it was the building next door that was on fire, the new Shell Malaysia's corporate HQ or also known as 348 Sentral. This building is still under construction.
At 6.20 a.m., I took a photo with my camera. Location of the shot is on the 36th floor of the Suasana Loft. At that time only one floor is on fire.
By 7:20 a.m., 3 floors are already on fire (picture below). You can hear the cracking of the exposed metal bars as they expand due to the heat and cracking sounds of concrete. You can feel the heat from where I was standing.
Saw a few firemen already on the top floor but they cannot do much as there is no water pressure available to push all the way up to the 36th floor. Instead, they are using the water on the roof of Suasana Loft to spray the fire.
Took a video of the fire as well.
Traffic around KL Sentral is currently standstill.

The construction of Mid Valley's Garden Mall in September 2005
While looking at my digital photo collection, I stumbled upon a set of pictures that I took of the foundation construction for the Garden Mall back in September 2005. These pictures were taken from the 5th floor of the Singature offices.
Compared to the Mid Valley mall, the Garden Mall is slightly smaller in size.
It is impressive to see the construction coming along.
