Bloemsma Van Breemen, one of Holland’s leading yachtbuilders, has launched the 41-metre (134 ft) fast cruising sloop Valquest. Designed by Ed Dubois, her sleek looks, silver metallic hull, low profile wheelhouse and clean deck combine to dramatic effect.
After completing trials on the North Sea, Valquest will head for a short maiden season of cruising in advance of a guest appearance at the Monaco show. And next year will see a true test of her world cruising potential as Valquest sets sail for the South Pole.
The launch of Valquest required some dredging work at the waterway outside the Bloemsma Van Breemen premises in Makkum. This allowed the yacht, which has a relatively high beam of 8.9 metres and draught of 4.15 metres, to sail directly from the yard to the sea. After the Monaco show Valquest will head for the Caribbean where she is sure to be a very popular feature on the charter market over the winter.
Later in 2010 the owner will embark on an adventure through the Panama Canal to explore Chile and the southern polar region. Valquest is specially fitted out for long range cruising with a high fuel tank capacity, an engine room with standing height, excellent storage spaces, and easy access to the in-deck winches and other technical installations.
Built to both Lloyds and MCA, the sloop’s all-aluminium construction will ensure a premium performance. Valquest is equipped with dual headstays, a roll-away boom with captive winches for all sail handling systems, and hydraulically operated running backstays. Twin-prow anchors on the bow will keep the yacht fixed in all locations.
Valquest’s modern flamed mahogany interior includes a forward master stateroom and three guest suites aft. A spacious layout provides superior accommodation for six crew members in three cabins, including separate dining facilities and a dedicated laundry. These facilities again reflect the fact that this fabulous yacht is built to explore far away from home.
