Platinum Yachts unveils 162m Dubai - the world’s largest superyacht

With her length of 162 metres, Dubai is the largest yacht in the world. She was originally commissioned by a Prince from Brunei and she was to be built at Blohm & Voss in co-operation with Lürssen. When a large part of the hull and superstructure of Project Panhandle/Golden Star was completed, the construction stopped and the unfinished yacht was sold to the ruler of Dubai. Following the sale, the project was renamed Platinum and transported from Germany to Dubai for completion at the newly formed shipyard, Platinum Yachts.

The results has proven that high quality, often encountered in small sized yachts only, could be achieved also in larger sized yachts and within budgetary limitations. Dubai was designed by Andrew Winch design with naval architecture by Blohm & Voss. The hull is designed with round bilge steel hull and aluminium superstructure, consisting of 7 accommodation decks. The interior layout and design was completed by Platinum Yachts’ Interior Design and Decoration office, the detailed engineering for the vessel was completed by the design department of Platinum Yachts.

The general arrangement allows great variety in the use of the yacht, providing luxury owner and guest accommodations, dinning, outdoor areas with swimming pool, swim platform of 15m x 2m, Jacuzzi’s, Barbeque area and much more. Besides multiple dining areas, saloons, guest and VIP suites, other notable features onboard Dubai include, two owner’s suites on the sixth and seventh decks and two heli-observations rooms on the seventh and eight decks.

Two large 10 metre tenders are stored in the yacht’s garage and fishing gears and water sport equipments are stored in the two water toy rooms. The vessel has a helideck designed for landing/takeoff with weight up to 9.5 tons and with refueling facilities onboard.

The engine room installation ensures trouble free operation anywhere in the world. The propulsion installation consists of two shaft lines with controllable pitch propellers, each driven through a gearbox by two MTU diesel engines; fully flexible mounted to guarantee the lowest possible noise and vibration levels onboard and powerful enough to deliver 26 knots.

Dubai has cabins for 88 crew including the captain, chief engineer and Doctor, and she can house a total of 115 persons including crew and guest staff.
