The SU-122 was a heavy-barrel assault gun system.The SU-122 is designated as an 'assault gun' system. The SU-122 utilized the same successful and easy-to-produce T34 Main Battle Tank chassis (visual similarities abound) with the SU-122 featuring 45mm thick armor.
The weapon system saw moderate success against German Panzer armor. Over 1,000 vehicles were produced, though eventually replaced in service by the SU-85 Assault Gun.
