Business, Economic and Finance: Ministry's study on highway concessions may see lower rates

"The Star, 8 May 2008 - The Works Ministry will review highway concessions which may result in lower toll rates. Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said he would call for a detailed study to be carried out before reviewing the concession agreements. Some of the important factors to be considered were the traffic volume forecasts, toll rates and period of the concession, he said. "

As a consumer I am all for it. However, nothing in life comes for free. Unless, the Government nationalise the concessionaires, something else must give. Since more subsidies are out of the question, I suspect the Government will extend the concession period for a few additional decades!
